I believe we have been successful because Liaison made an effort to ensure we can have in-person meet-ups and catch-ups online, including colleagues who live far away, for whom travel has been covered and they haven’t been left out. I feel Liaison want us to be happy and you can see this with the company days and coffee vouchers and other perks we have. If all companies took this approach, I feel they would have happier remote workers.

As a department, we can see the full benefits of the new system. Through fully utilising the outsourcing function, we now have better oversight and understanding of our rota gaps and locum spend. This, paired with our new safe staffing level guide, has resulted in a reduction of our locum use from 10.4 WTE to 5.2WTE in just 8 weeks – an overall saving of around £30,000 per month. The main driving factor for this improvement is the visibility that NHS At Work offers, with the outsourcing function allowing the two systems (Roster and TempRE) to interact. As the system has allowed us to reduce our need for locums, we have also seen a quicker uptake of shifts, more than halving the average time it takes to fill a locum shift to 52 hours

Norfolk and Norwich has proved to be a great project for all involved, with one of the highest uptakes of digital PIFU. They are a great example of how to get digital patient engagement right and scale PIFU quickly and safely. Our seamless partnership with the Trust and Infinity Health is supporting a truly integrated, and automated, outpatients solution that works for patients and clinicians.

This is really exciting progress. To be able to both offer 30,000 patients the option to book an appointment when they need one, and reduce the unnecessary appointments that clinicians attend. The patients that need care are seen quicker, while other patients can be reviewed remotely so no one slips through the net. The next phase to integrate with on-site laboratories will take it to another level. This is a site to watch.

Our partnership with Infinity Health and DrDoctor is already having a positive impact on patients and clinicians. Patients tell us that they feel in control of their condition and can communicate with their clinical teams more easily. It is also releasing appointments in the hospital, while giving clinicians the tools to remotely monitor patients. We are working hard to ensure even more patients benefit from PIFU and I’m looking forward seeing the impact brought about by integrating blood tests into the process.
