We’re on a mission to create positive change through Social Value, focusing on our environmental impact, cultural and social wellbeing, ethical practices and long-term sustainability.
That’s why we’ve invested in a Social Value platform to collate, evidence, report upon and improve our Social Value year on year, benchmarking against Impact Environmental Standard (IES) metrics to ensure we effectively measure our social value activities and the positive impact they have on the environment and our local communities.

Key Themes of Social Value

Our Social Value Champion
Our dedicated Social Value Champion promotes and embeds social value principles throughout our business, driving purposeful change and fostering innovation for continuous and long-term positive improvement.

Tackling Economic Inequality
In alignment with the Social Value Model Award Criteria (MAC) and Impact Evaluation Standard (IES), we’re committed to creating employment and training opportunities countrywide, including individuals facing barriers to employment, those in deprived areas or high growth sectors and proactively closing any skills shortage gaps.
We are committed to reducing economic inequality through multiple initiatives, including fair wages, local engagement, and inclusive practices. 100% of employees are paid at least the Real Living Wage, with many earning above the baseline.
Fighting Climate Change
We’re committed to combating climate change through a comprehensive strategy that encompasses emission reductions, environmental stewardship, and community engagement. Beyond contract performance, our proactive initiatives focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving environmental outcomes, and fostering a culture of sustainability across our supply chain, workforce, and the communities we serve.
Committed to reaching Net Zero by 2040 and reducing emissions by 40% by 2025 and by 80% by 2030.
Our entire workforce has been working remotely since 2020, operating on a paperless office basis. This approach eliminates the environmental impact of commuting while reducing water and energy consumption, allowing us to progress towards our goal of Net Zero by 2040.

Driving Equal Opportunity
We promote equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion in our recruitment process to eliminate bias and ensure everyone has a fair chance. Where possible, we recruit local to participating authorities, promoting increased local knowledge and ensuring we are responsive to our customers’ needs.
We select candidates based on skills and use neutral, non-discriminatory language in job ads. We also use multiple recruitment platforms like LinkedIn and job search sites to promote transparency and equal opportunity.
Individuals with specific protected characteristics who are underrepresented within the business, have different needs, or have historically been disadvantaged in employment will be targeted for employment/training opportunities. Where additional support is required for such individuals to succeed in their role, we provide tailored support, such as accessible training resources and mentorship.
