HMRC Release New Dates for CHIEF Phase Out
2 September 2021
Liaison Financial
HMRC have released an update which provides dates for when their Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) system will be phased out, and their new Customs Declaration service (CDS) system should be used.
This will affect any NHS organisation who uses CHIEF to make import and export declarations. If you use an agent to make declarations on your behalf, you may want to check that they are preparing to change system where this software is used.
The withdrawal of CHIEF will occur in two phases:
- 30th September 2022 – CHIEF can no longer be used to make import declarations
- 31st March 2023 – CHIEF can no longer be used to make export declarations
The following link has information about registered for CDS: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/get-access-to-the-customs-declaration-service
Many NHS bodies are now successfully using CDS to view and download postponed VAT accounting (PVA) statements.
